Saturday Fun

Saturday brought beautiful weather and fun in the sun. We decided to take a trip to the Virginia Beach area and ended up at Mount Trashmore Park. Now, because none of you know about Mount Trashmore, I'll go ahead and explain the wacky name. The park was formerly a landfill site, which was then abandoned and reformed in to a park in 1974. Very crazy but very cool.
From the highway passers-by can see the sky framed with kites and figurine-sized people line the hilltop, which is ultimately what led us to check it out. Not to mention, the playground looks the size of a small city. The park also has a walking trail that's about 2 miles long and a skate park. Did I mention this park is very cool? Yeah...
We enjoyed our time at the park watching children roll down the huge hill, playing on the playground, and walking along the top of the hill, taking in the beautiful scenery at sunset. So far Mount Trashmore is one of our favorite parks.

As the day came to an end, we headed home and I cooked up a quick and easy meal: pasta and broccoli (because pasta and broccoli were the only two ingredients we had to throw together! definitely need to hit the grocery store.) Very yummy indeed.
And a quick how-to on the pasta & broccoli dish: Throw 2 cups egg noodles, 2 cups frozen broccoli florets in to 3.5 cups boiling chicken broth. Cook until soft, drain, then sauté in a pan with 1/4 cup butter, 2 tbs extra virgin olive oil, pepper/salt to taste, and 1/4 tsp garlic powder. Very fast and easy meal to make.

Later I relaxed with some tea before turning out the lights for the night. Mer even enjoyed some.

All in all, it was a fun and relaxing day with the family. I love days like this when there's no work, no responsibilities, and the only time we have is time to spend together.
